Pregnant lady at the beach

During pregnancy your body does amazing things! Not only is it busy growing a brand new human being, but it also has to adapt to a new 'normal' for sustaining you. Sometimes this can cause negative symptoms, such as back ache, heartburn or discomfort.

Supporting you

Staying healthy during Pregnancy

Pregnancy is tiring work; your body is busy looking after you and nourishing your baby. Even a healthy pregnancy can have negative side effects such as back pain and fatigue which acupuncture can help to alleviate. In pregnancy I find the minimal amount of invention necessary is the best strategy and will usually suggest acupuncture as the best treatment. In certain cases where it becomes necessary then herbal treatment can also be considered.

I use acupuncture to prepare women for labour; usually from 37 weeks a women can receive pre-labour acupuncture which research has shown can decrease the duration of labour and reduce the likelihood of intervention. I offer acupuncture and moxa treatment to postpartum mums to promote healing after labour; this helps to heal any scar tissue, reduce swelling and pain and promote milk production.

Common symptoms acupuncture can help to alleviate:

  • Morning sickness
  • Heart burn
  • Insomnia
  • Fatigue
  • Constipation
  • Back pain
  • Swollen or achy joints
  • Breach presentation (acupuncture and moxa can help your baby turn)
